Ankermann Computer e.K. is a customer-orientated supplier of individual hardware components, PC systems, laptops and servers that was established in Teningen in 1997. From a small company with its own workshop, it has grown into an efficient distributor with market shares in various online marketplaces in Europe.

For over 25 years, the company has specialised in the assembly, repair and quality control of PCs and has its own workshop. This is where the experienced and well-trained technicians work, who are responsible for the professional assembly and final inspection of PCs and laptops. As one of the first companies to introduce product configurator software in 1999, it is considered an industry innovator. Since then, Ankermann has offered its customers a great opportunity to configure a PC or laptop according to their own wishes. This means that gaming, office or multimedia PCs as well as entire workstations for special applications can be put together according to individual preferences with the help of a configurator. The Ankermann online shop was created on the basis of XTC: Modified. After thoroughly analysing the shop problems, our specialist team made all backups and carried out a migration from XTC:Modified to Shopware 6. In this way, we have opened up new paths to development and growth for the online shop, which contribute to scalability and future-proof online trading. The core task of our agency for online shops was to create software for product configuration. Over the course of the project, we completed a number of varied tasks to improve the results of the webshop.

With our expert help, Ankermann has become a powerful, progressive online shop with product configurator that is becoming increasingly popular. The product configurator software makes it possible to put together complex products according to your own wishes and ideas.

There are 5 types of configurator: PC, Gaming PC, Mini PC, Laptop and Nuc Brix Configurator. In the component selection block, the product families are displayed for selection and future editing of components. When clicking on a specific product family, a pop-up window appears with a list of components that the customer can select for their customisable product. The customer can select the desired components and check their compatibility. Neo4j determines the compatibility based on the attributes of the product components. If the selected components are incompatible, the configurator displays a detailed error and indicates the reason for the incompatibility.

The component attributes and their values are transferred from KennerPIM to Neo4j via the PIM-Neo4j Connector that we have developed. The response from Neo4j is then delivered to Shopware. All changes made are synchronised in real time. The customer therefore immediately sees the product they have put together and the price for it. If the price is too high, expensive components can be replaced by cheaper ones. By using product configuration software, the quotation process is much faster and error-free.

To make it easier for customers to find the component they want, we have introduced filters. You can enter the component name and immediately see its detailed characteristics, images and prices. Redis Cashe is used so that the data can be uploaded more quickly. Data upload is realised thanks to Ajax technology. This makes it possible to improve the user experience and the overall shopping experience.

Thanks to the integration of KennerPIM, the management and editing of various product data is quick and easy. This includes multilingual descriptions, the pricing system and inventory. In addition, articles from IT Scope and Icecat were imported into PIM, enabling process automation and the management and editing of product data. Thanks to the separate data quality module we developed, the quality of the product data can be checked. This makes it possible to recognise errors and inaccuracies in data filling and product images. Thanks to the flexible navigation and various filter options for errors, a high level of data consistency is achieved across all products.

The exact product data is automatically transferred from KennerPIM to Shopware via PIM-Shopware-Connector and displayed to the customer on the website. The extended data export of KennerPIM is an important development of this project. This makes it possible to sell products on different marketplaces. All required product data is stored in the CSV file: Descriptions, prices, characteristics, images. They are updated automatically, which guarantees that the data is up-to-date on all marketplaces.

Kenners Soft has developed Quickfinder, which helps customers to find the required PC systems much faster according to specific parameters (processor and graphics card type, memory, hard drives and SSD capacity, price or optional equipment). The products found can be added to the basket immediately or a finished PC system can be uploaded to the product configurator software and the desired changes can be made, e.g. replacing a specific component.

Our Shopware agency is responsible for consulting and developing a new design for the shop. The modern design was developed as a customised theme whose functionality was enhanced with various plugins. We have adapted the website for different devices (mobile, desktop, tablet), improved the navigation of the shop and usability of the website. Our team has made numerous improvements to layouts. We have optimised such software as a product configurator and made it easier to create advertising banners. In addition, we have added quick search for PC systems by GPU, CPU and RAM parameters on the home page and flexible filters on the category page. We have converted them to WebP format for image optimisation in Shopware. They are compressed, which makes the website lighter. Thumbnails were added to the images.

A special system was implemented so that customers can see the discount prices on the website. We have added different delivery methods on the product and category pages so that customers can immediately analyse the delivery times depending on the selected delivery method. We have integrated eKomi and Trusted Shops to enable Ankermann to collect customer reviews. Our team has carried out a wide range of work to ensure that the online shop continues to develop, functions seamlessly, attracts new customers and generates more sales.
